Eat || where the bluebird sings

On the corner of a lane near the viaduct on Damen sits the Bluebird. A refined little bar, singing the praises of an interesting selection of beers and wines from around the world, with a well-edited menu perfect for a wintry evening warmed by the candle lit interior, enjoy the ambience and let it whisk you away it might just feel like you are in Europe.

WHERE: 1749 N Damen Ave, Chicago, IL 60647
WHAT: This place is busy on the weekends, so to avoid frustration with long lines and wait times for a table or space at the bar make a visit during the week. Once you have found your preferred seating [for us it is at the bar] head straight for the beer list and select something new to tantalize the taste buds this place is all about exploring. The menu is divided in to: small plates – with decent servings to share [the fiery harissa-spiced chicken wings with grilled orange is superb], also includes the soup special [right now – it is a creamy potato and leek soup with blue cheese – the bowl was licked]; large plates – with house-made sausages, a pasta dish is always featured, a bison burger, and flatbreads [especially the Lebanese flatbread with spiced ground lamb, roasted red peppers, mozzarella & watercress is good]: sides – the Frites [Belgian style] are also tasty and worth ordering; there is also a section for Cheese and Charcuterie that changes with the seasons that can be ordered as a tasting or a la carte; then there is a whole selection of mussels & frites: and dessert is the final offering this is the waffle section coming in various preparations. We have never been disappointed with our visits to this establishment enjoying the beers on offer and the food that is a great compliment. Want to get a reservation – well join in the ‘Salon Series‘ on Sunday nites for $40 bucks and get dinner, drinks & an artist talk.
WHEN: This is a dinner into late night spot. Open 7 days a week from 5pm until late – call to double-check(773) 486-2473
