Went to the Publican for Brunch and ended up cleaning-out the wallet & the store at Publican Quality Meats. Look away now vegetarians this is not something for you. It is the ultimate butcher shop / deli, that happens to have a cafe too. We were here for the meat and the meat only.
Hello – where in the city can you get a 70-day-old dry-aged-ribeye! The selection of charcuterie alone is worth the visit, and you can also grab local farm & artisanal products including cheese and spreads and alike. The exceptional service & knowledge of the butchers, they totally saw us coming, they up sold & cross sold the store to us, but in a good way.
The feast was delicious [blood sausage, bone marrow, iberico jamon sliced off the bone, ribeye steak, & for later veal cheeks & white anchovies]. Looking forward to a return visit soon.
WOW. What a night! Here is an express three [3] minute tour of the 5+ hour dining experience at the Kitchen Table - Next Restaurant ‘for the el Bulli‘ menu. Amazing experience: fab dishes; great service; and super fun!
Sheer luck and some gambling thru Facebook scored the Kitchen Table in the final weeks of NEXT Restaurant and their highly coveted ‘el Bulli’ menu. Here is a peek at the menu, tomorrow I have a video to condense the experience into a few minutes vs. the 5+ hours we ate, drank & had FUN!
Guilty as charged! Still, I can laugh at myself, and this doesn’t discourage me from taking pictures of what I eat. What can I say? I love food, and food experiences. I could have worse vices, like heroin. So don’t judge we all have our ‘thing’. What’s yours?
Found this on the NEXT RESTAURANT Facebook page when checking out table releases for the day, it made me laugh, and scored us the kitchen table for 6 tonight to El Bulli. Can’t wait. There will be photos. Maybe a video who knows? But here is a peek into the experience…
If you are not familiar with Phil’s Last Stand you should check it out, but not if you live too close, it is addictive and oh-so-delicious. The ‘fatso-burger’ is my favorite ‘dive’ burger in town, and anything and everything from the fryer rocks my world.
Cho Sun Ok, we all have passed the doors a million times, and we are grateful that we have finally stepped behind the windowless facade. Another great little BYOB experience in Chicago, but it is popular so arrive before 7pm so you don’t have to wait in line for some great Korean food. There is not a lot of English spoken here, no worries, they understand the finger-pointing method very well. Everything we ate, although we have no idea what we ordered, was delicious. And we love that anything left on the table is thrown into the clay-pot, covered in rice and then cooked to crisp perfection and packaged up for leftovers. Good Stuff.
I am still dreaming of our pizza experience in Detroit, the best substitute for Neapolitan pizza in Chicago is at Spacca Napoli. Authentic ingredients go into the crust imported from the motherland and cooked to crisp perfection on the outside, with just the right level of chewiness combined with a few fresh simple ingredients. Delicious & great service.
We celebrated my Cuzband’s Birthday [Cousin's Husband] just before Christmas at this delightful little French Bistro – Bistro Bordeaux in Evanston. Absolutely charming, and feels authentically French, and loved that we just happened to be there on a Wednesday when they offer a 3 course ‘Prix Fixe‘ special for $29.00, an unbelievably great deal. Some highlights included: a damn good steak tartare; bread & butter that makes me cry thinking about it; drool worthy pomme frites; buttery garlic good escargot; great service; excellent wine list; and comes highly recommended for a french fix when there is no time to get to France.
Oh and when did the rule that you can take your open bottle of wine home if sealed in a bag with a receipt come into play? I guess we don’t usually have problems finishing the wine, but we kinda over served ourselves for this celebration. Love the wine-doggy-bag.
